Tuesday morning.
First thing in the morning to start with my reasearch.Starting place i went to was the Central St Martins Art School on Charing CRoss road.Had my camera in my hand a sketchbook and some coloured pens in case i did any skerches. Why i went to St Martins and on Charing Cross road? When you see the pictures you will see the reason. That building is the building were you can see the real 'fashion victims'.Anything you find in your wardrobe no matter colour you put it on,doing as much combinations as you can.Scarfs, coats or jeckets long t-shirts (this is in fashion now as well as everything else), wearing anything that makes you unique from everyone else either this is a blue coat,a big handbag, wearing lots of layers of clothing etc.Fashion is doing circles each decade is coming back again and again.I believe were now between the mid 70s and 80s(in terms of fashion). After spending quite a long time on Charing Cross road i went to Dover Bookshop which is suggested on the brief to go and have a look. They have an amazing collection of books containing CLIP-ART that is been done using ola techology like typewriters etc. Some books i found interesting are A big book of silhouettes, Fashion Drawings and Illustrations from 'Harpers Bazar'Also a book called T-Shirt 360 that is basically prints on t shirts and looks very interesting, another publication is Paper Doll publications that have a serious of books under the titles of Best Actresses,Glamorous Television Starts,Everyday fashions of the fifties(as pictured in sears catalogues) and so much more..Really in my visual reasearch inspired me so much on what style i want to take my illustrations. From the dover bookshop i bought a small stencil book of bugs:)( i love the silhouttes of bugs)

Project 2-
Contemporary Clip-Art
Done with the first project here we go for a new one called Contemporary Clip-Art.Seems an interesting project towards a tottally different direction from the other one. This project asks to generate a series of illustrations in the form of Contemp. Clip-Art, where we choose a subject (in this case my subject is Fashion Victims). The images we produce can visually have any style you like and any medium that is appropriate though with your subject.I choose this theme due to a project i did last year related to this named Instant..'Fine Art Student', where ironically ,with a humorous way, i showed that although fine art students want to look as unique and original with their style (way they dress) they are al the same and you can pick them from the first glance. That's why i want to push this idea of nowadays 'fashion' and produce some nice illustrations in the form of clip art.As starting points, i did a bit research from books i had home and had a look in my last year's sketchbook and the sketches i did to take inspiration.Tomorrow there is lots of research.Going to st martins fashion department taking pictures and doing some sketches of people how they are dressed, going to doverbookshop and maybe go to london college of fashion.

Last day of work for part 4 and in general for this project.I printed out my final poster which is a mixture of compositions of different distorted fonts. From this project i have to say at the beginning i wasnt enjoying it at all.Towards parts 3 and 4 i realised the purposes of the previous parts. There were a sort of exercises to explore possibilities of using layout and typography applied to all sorts of writen media to communicate messages throught that.Parts 3 and 4 were more freely and not so directed where we used all the knownledge we gained from the previous parts and apply also our own skills and ideas through the visual communication. After i finished with all my work i found collected 'found' things that are related with typography and i think they are quite inspiring and i uploaded them.Hope the crit goes well tommorrow.

Wednesday, same day, after finishing the work of part 4 i i had a thought on part 3 and i wasnt very satisfied with what i did.Maybe it wasnt as strong as others or my layouts werent as clear as the message i wanted to convey se i did 2 more pages on part 3 about turning THE SUN into architectural-visually-language.More clear layouts.added shapes that are included in front-side views such the toilet or the bathroom, doors,a terrace, the kitchen.I thought for part 3 that we were a bit restricted of what to do thats why my final pieces at the end-i think-they looked a bit conservative, beacause i was.I am uploading 2 pages i did for part 3 and i am also uploading an image of text that i used in part 4.Different pieces put together made my compositions

This morning we had no lessons at uni so since i woke up i started doing some work on part 4.I decided i want to do compositions containing different fonts (such as euristile, geneva, helvetica neue, impact, braggadoccio, baskerville old face) and also use fonts that i scanned in from my sketchbook (the 3 pages i did a few days ago with lettraset, stencils)and old sketchbooks as well. After making these compositions a experimented more on what i had produced.I did some experimental work using both compositions and mixturing them, leaving a plain outline, concentrated on specific parts, playing with marks. Now that i know what it works and what is not i am going to produce another composition which i will experiment more and produce an A2 poster with the finished work. But first i am going to do some pages using other lettraset and used fonts..hope it goes well..

Tuesday after the crit,
We had a session today after giving in part 3 and had the chance to see what everybody else did.I was quite impressed with a few people's work like Simon's Patrick's and Lisa's work.I was a bit curious because the tutors didn't give as any individual feedback about what each one of us did and they just picked the ones that they liked and what they expected from this part.So i dont feel or i dont know of what they thought of my work.On Friday we have to give Part 4 so we have little time of work to prepare our finished pieces. The idea that i got that they want to see is that they want us to be experimental on this part and play with typography.Thinking the visual part now of this project and breaking down the structures that we did in the previous parts. So aftrer what i did in my sketchbook, taking it from there i continued playing around with lettraset, stencils and i i did 2 sheets of experimental type. What i want to do for part 4 is to experiment more with type and play with scale, use different fonts as well as i quite like the idea and i think is working with the sheets i produced.

Saturday morning..Hard work started, after measuring each page in order to start the designs in Indesign. Here are some pictures as the designs come to their end gradually. After i finished with my designs i decided that i wanted to print all of them on news prnt to have that feeling of newspaper and see how they actually look.Through my research i found in the book 10x10 some interesting pages were they had black background and the lines were white so i thought i could do the same with mine so inverted everything in photoshop and i will present all the 6 pages at the crit.

The next day...
After so much work and thought on part 3, the discussion with my tutors led to my very first idea about architecture and that taking front-side views and turn them into layouts it seems interestingg...I am glad in a way because i can use both ideas in this porject.First turn THE SUN visually into architectural language and play with the layouts and content as well cause i will place them on the page as how i want.So i started my reasearch for taking inspiration..i took out some books from the library that the tutors suggested such as Deconstruction,Archigram, another one i found called Architects today and 10x10 a book on architecture i had home. After this search i was really inspired and i liked the subject of architecture since school that i was doing architectural drawing but unfortunetelly i dont have my projects in England or else i could use them. After i went home i started doing some handrawn A3 sheets of what my layouts want to look like.and the rest come the day after..

Wednesday..
We had a meeting today with Luke and Ben who gave us a talk that it was really interesting.Basically it was about typography starting from old time coming towards futurist and avant-garde, Dada and Fluxus movemnts until how typography is used today.More or less is being showed how graphics being used as a tool using type and image and that grid can be used to bring out the content of whatever that is.i remember a reasearch i did when i was at the foundation on fluxus and dada about exploring the theme of typography how was applied.i manage to get some visuals from that talk and i will upload some that interest me most. Now back to the project..my very first idea was to target architects for my audience in order to play with the leyout as it is required for part 3.Do some research on architectural books, seeing plans,front-side views and generate from the overall layouts of my own.But as i have said to the previous post i wasnt sure if they'd like this idea.So after the talk, ideas and concepts were playing in my mind.Such as...THE SUN is a tabloid and not for very intelectual people,it's making gossip about celebreties, famous people and sometimes it says things that may not be true.So it i thought of making THE SUN into a broadsheet, visually to have a really designed content, more structured layout and that to aim into high society like bussinessmen.Give a false impression and make it more sophisticated.I did 3 pages in my sketchbook which i really find inspiring..we will see what the next day will bring when meet our tutors..

Missed one day of posting due to the fact that it wouldnt open the main blogger website..Yesterday we had a crit for part 2 and each group had to answer a questionaire contained from 5 questions like: 1.Describe the first publication of the magazine in front of you and its meaning. 2.What has happened now you have transferred the new material into the original layout? 3.Generate an overview of what the group is looking to do in part 3. 4.What have you learnt about using a web-blog in the project so far? 5.What have you learnt on the project so far?
I am going to ansewr to questions no 4 and no 5 which i think they are overall of this porject so far. 4.It's the first time i use a web-blog at the beggining i thought that it was a bit irritating because everything you do you have to scan or put in in there. But as the project was going on i noticed that is usefull for me cause i can use it as reference show a bit of personal work-which is published and shared with others-put feelings and thoughts down and write down stuff that i cant put in a sketchbook.
5.I have learn the basics in in-design which i never used before, now i do appreciate layouts of maagzines, books, newspapers and i know how much hard work it is.Typography is a subject that i love and through out this project i studied more like how many fonts they exist and how similar they can look but in detail there are so many differences.
After the crit yesterday when i went home i was so confused about part 3.i had an idea and i did some research as well but when i said what i want to do i didnt think that the tutors liked it.And at the end they said for part 3 to be creative and that this the fun bit of the project. So i was too worried and last night took out some books old sketchbooks and started doing some research and i said to my self...'come on then lets be creative'.Here i have some sketchbook pages i did back in 2004 and by coinsidence i found this page that i took from an article and played around with it...I really miss working in a sketchbook like this way..

Weekend Part 3
The way i see it at this point targeting your audience and playing with layout matters more rather than the content itself.Doing some research going to 'Borders' where they have various magazines on various subjects would gave me a more specific idea of what i want to do next. What fonts they use for different subjects and how the layout is spread.A first idea i had is illustrating the cover and the inside approaching it for kids but then i thought this is a reassuring idea which anything you do would seem alright. But then i thought of architects.Going back to first year where we had a publisher and designer for magazines talking about his work Damien Jacques, whose work intrigued me and some inspiration came from there when laying out tha pages for my portfolio.Using shapes and playing with them on the background.Coming back to this project i can relate this with an architecture magazine.Inspired from plans, front views miniature of models and taking their outline can actual be a grid for my layout..Above i uploaded images that illustrate what i am saying from a book called 'Material World 2 Innovative Materials for Architecture and Design'

Day 3 Friday
Part 2 came to its end.I have to say this week had passed really quickly and the work was ready by Friday afternoun. The final bits, last minute mistakes that we noticed and changes that would make the templates look even better and pretty similar to the original template and layout. This time we all work and the result is satisfied.Although when i got them printed i noticed little mistakes but hopefully they wont be noticeable to others:)Group work is over now-thank God- individual work would be held.Me and James Nicholson(tall) got really on together working for this project i think if it wasnt for us this project would be a disaster.

Day 2 Part 2
Thursday morning after the lecture quite a lot of work was done based on what we started yesterday with quite a few changes though.'Team' spirit can not describe this day again but the work which was produced was quite good.I was reading a magazine the previous night and its layout was interesting original and inspiring (above image) some thoughts went through my mind for PArt 3 as we have to prepare some work supporting our ideas that has to be presented on Tuesday with the finished Part 2.But for now we have to concentrated on making a good finished piece for part 2 and during the weekend work would be done for part 3..
